It is not the expiration date on the bag. Once the bag is opened, the food should be stored in a sealed glass jar or stored in the freezer. If you store it in plastic, the fats and oils in the food leach into the microscopic holes in the plastic. Leaving the food in the bag once it is opened also hastens its shelf life due to the oils they spray the food and the bag with starting to go rancid. He mentioned if you do feed raw food, to know the produced on date code. It is only good 3 to 4 months from that date stored in the freezer, just like uncooked ground meat.
